FN FiveseveN Forums - So what are the odds that they will ever make higher capacity mags?

HunterGrn asked:

FN FiveseveN Forums - So what are the odds that they will ever make higher capacity mags?: "I was thinking it would be nice to have a 30 or even a 40 round extended mag just for kicks. Do you think anyone will ever make some?"

FNMAN said:

There is a company working on a 10 rd extension. You will be able to stack them and springs will be available to get it to 40 rds. It is almost completed. I can not say who it is until they are ready to go to market. The prototypes I have seen are awesome.

FN FiveseveN Forums - other platforms for 5.7

Clayton Moore's thoughts on other platforms:

FN FiveseveN Forums - other platforms for 5.7: "Im thinking you could lengthen existing designs without too much trouble - the simpler they are the better... a big question in my mind is can you make a straight blowback 5.7x28 and have it be reliable.... if so this really allows some cheap ass guns

taking the FiveSeven hi cap

-a Mini Uzi / Mac10 / Clarige Hi Tec / Tec9 type straight blowback semi auto pistol and a folding/collapsing stock carbine version
-a KelTec Sub5.7 carbine that folds
-something that looks like the sterling SMG with a tube receiver w/Five Seven mag feeding from the left side of the gun
-a highpoint 5.7 pistol and carbine - both in that $199 - $299 price range

-a ruger 10/57 semi auto based on the 10/22 (or a semi auto 5.7 rifle from marlin)
- a ruger 77/57 bolt gun based on the 77/22 (or a bolt gun from marlin)
-I always have liked my AR-7, so Im also gonna ask for a AR57 survival rifle - the action and barrel takedown and stow in the butstock (and it floats)

and a couple more that wont take the Five Seven hicap,

-a thompson contender single shot handgun and rifle
-H&R handi rifle
-the taurus raging 57 that was already mentioned - make it a 10 shooter please
-I wonder if ruger can do a 6 shot 5.7 cylinder for the single six..... a three cylinder convertible (22lr, 22 mag, 5.7x28) revolver would make a nice davidsons limited edition gun
-a CZ 527 mini mauser bolt gun"

Premium .224 Caliber Hunting Bullet Comparison - by Rob Martin

Premium .224 Caliber Hunting Bullet Comparison - by Rob Martin: "Sierra Game King
Another old standby for the test, the Game King is a widely used bullet. The construction is a simple tapered jacket design with a bump that, in theory, locks in the core and prevents over-expansion. The premise of the Game King was to give ballistic results similar to that of the highly acclaimed Match King in a hunting bullet. I will attest to the fact that they are very accurate and stable at long ranges, and I have made some impressively long range shots on varmints with these bullets (over six hundred meters on rock hyrax and jackal) and have put down larger game animals such as fallow deer, springbok and Blesbok at tree hundred plus meter ranges. Bullet performance, for me, has been a mixed bag of reliability over the years I have used the Game King, in part prompting this test in the first place.
The Sierras are a full metal jacket designed bullet with an open base. It is my though that the open base allows for the sometimes high percentage of bullet failure associated with this bullet. Wit nothing to retain any semblance of cohesion at the base of the bullet, there is nothing to keep the jacket intact after impacting bone. Many have abandoned this bullet in favor of newer bullet designs that have come down the pike in recent years. Sierra may want to rethink some of the antiquated designs they continue to produce and try to keep up with the Jonses.

FN FiveseveN Forums - Dies: "Hornady has them available for sale, they just haven't posted to their site or put into catalog yet. You have to call them. I got an email from a Hornady person and was told that, 'The die part number is 544203 and uses a shell holder 37. ' You can call Hornady at this number to order: 1-800-338-3220, and choose the 'Retail Sales' option from the phone menu. I believe it came to around $49.00 and change for Dies, Shellholder and shipping."

Rhineland Arms - G2 Tactical Rifle

G2 Tactical Rifle: "

Coming Soon
Rhineland Arms will be offering 2 new rifles for the new 5.7*28mm caliber. These rifles will be modular, light and accurate. The 5.7*28 mm is a 22 caliber bullet, the same as a .223 that we are all used to.
The first rifle will be more traditional than the R22 yet still utilize a free float barrel for high accuracy capabilities. The rifle will use the standard FN FiveseveN 10 or 20 round magazines and feature a 17' button made barrel. This rifle will have several parts that are inter-changable with other parts currently on the market. Priced around $500
The second rifle will be based on the same magazine as the FN P90. This rifle will have a free floating 16.5' barrel and readily accept optics. The features of the rifle will be very familiar with a traditional military stock, pistol grip and forearm format. Priced around $550

FN FiveseveN Forums - Pull 40 gr V-MAX from ss196, replace with Berger 30gr ???

Posted by benb:

FN FiveseveN Forums - Pull 40 gr V-MAX from ss196, replace with Berger 30gr ???: "I finally got to pull 5 40gr VMax bullets from some SS196.

The powder charge is a very consistant 4.6 grains of a very fine gray powder. I've never seen anything like it before. The case is only abount half full. The bullet is sealed in the case with some kind of sealer or adhesive.

As for the Berger 30 gr vs. the 40 gr VMax:

VMax measured .683 and the Berger .615. The difference of .068 is mainly in the sharper plastic tip of the VMax versus the blunt hollow point of the Berger.

I set my seating die using a SS196 round which had an OAL of 1.583. My reloaded Berger round measured 1.493, a difference of .090. Again, much of the difference being the sharpened VMax tip. Actually, the Berger may take up the same or more space in the case than the VMax because the Berger is flat based vs. the beveled base on the VMax.

My feeling at this point is (like someone else here said) that FN may have been a bit conservative and this round has more potential than what we've gotten from the factory so far. That goes for the SS192/SS195LF as well as the politically correct SS196. Just gotta find the right powder/primer. I also think the Berger 30 has great potential for this round. Still have to get to the range and check out these reloads."

FN FiveseveN Forums - Magazine pouches

Posted by MadDogL
FN FiveseveN Forums - Magazine pouches: "The dimensions of the 5.7 mag and the Desert Eagle 50AE mags are exactly the same (and I mean exactly) so any mag pouch made of leather for the DE should work. Kydex material is another story. I think Kydex mag pouches need to be molded around an actual 5.7 mag or it's not going to work as well as it should. Leather is a little forgiving where as Kydel molds around every imperfection in the magazine needed for that 'snap fit'."
