P90 Sights (Ring Sights -10-80)

Print PDF BrochurePrint PDF Brochure

Description

LC-40-100-NVG-GSO

The MC-10-80 is specifically designed for the FN Herstal P90. The sight is a unit power telescopic sight with a black graticule for day use and a open T for night use lit by a red tritium light source. Being NVG compatible it is ideally suited to 24 hour operations.
The sight is available for every type of rifle or carbine in service and can be fitted to standard Picatinny or STANAG mount.
Aiming is instinctive and target acquisition instantaneous. The P90 is fitted with an integral optical sight without magnification, for improved sighting and quicker acquisition of the target. Performance is fully retained in low light conditions.
In the P90 the solid glass optic is potted into a plastic housing designed as part of the weapon interfacing with it through two zeroing screws for elevation and windage. The sight withstands the NATO drop test by dropping the gun onto concrete, sight down, from 1.5 metres without damage to the sight.
The sight has a 10mm aperture and two graticule patterns. Small and large rings lit by light from the target for day use and, for low light, an open T lit by a red gtls enhanced by light from the sky. The open T can be used with the naked eye or for shooting with Night Vision Goggles.
The gtls can be replaced by an armourer when necessary, using a knife with advice from Ring Sights technical department. This is the only maintenance required.

FN's Five-seveN® PistolThe First of a New Generation
In 1935, the FN-made Browning Hi Power was revolutionary. The market quickly adopted this high-capacity 9mm pistol accordingly, and it has since been fielded by over 100 countries.
FN's newest contribution the handgun's evolution is named the Five-seveN®. This 20-round pistol fires a 5.7mm bullet that will defeat most body armor in military service around the world today. Essentially, the Five-seveN® represents a quantum leap forward in the handgun's suitablity for close engagements by delivering the type of performance that was previously confined to rifles or carbines. Elements of this performance include:
High magazine capacity: The Five-seveN® comes standard with 20-round magazine.
High stopping power: The Five-seveN® fires the 5.7x28mm SS190 Ball round which reliably penetrates Kevlar helmets and vests as well as CRISAT protection.
High hit probability: The Five-seveN's® extremely low recoil impulse results in virtually no muzzle climb, thereby facilitating fast and controllable follow-up shots.
Yet, the Five-seveN® is:
Light and ergonomic: Weighing 30% less than most 9mm pistols, the smoothly-contoured Five-seveN® is comfortable to carry and quick to deploy.
Fully safe: Due to its double-action firing mechanism, the Five-seveN® offers no inherent risk of accidental discharge during transportation. Furthermore, all of its safety devices are automatically reengaged following each firing cycle.
The Five-seveN® fires the SS190 5.7x28mm ball round. This projectile will perforate any individual protection on today's battlefield including the PASGT kevlar helmet, 48 layers of kevlar body armor and the CRISAT target (titanium and kevlar). The SS190's conventional design allows it to be manufactured on existing production lines, and its lead-free composition eliminates range contamination.

Advantages
The Five seveN Pistol is the companion weapon to the P90 sub-machine gun. The Five seveN is an easily concealable double action pistol with a larger, 20-round magazine capacity. A maximum use has been made of composite materials in the frame and slide to result in an extremely light weight, 1.7 pound, design. The 5.7x28mm ammunition has the capability of penetrating body armor at extended ranges. This new ammunition features a lead-free projectile to eliminate environmental concerns. NATO STANAG classification for the ammunition is currently underway.

Fabrique Nationale (FN) Five-seveN (Belgium) Five-seveN Five-seveN Tactical (note safety switch above the trigger) Five-seveN stripped into main parts
Type: Double Action Only or Single Action (in Tactical model)Chambering: 5.7x28mm SS190Length: 208 mm Barrel length : 122.5 mm Weight: ca. 620 g with empty magazine; ca. 760 g loadedMagazine: 20 rounds
The Five-seveN pistol was designed by FN company (Belgium) as a complimentary sidearm for the P90 submachine-gun. The P90 and Five-seveN share the same ammunition, the 5.7x28mm SS190 cartridge. The SS190 ammunition looks like scaled down 5.56mm NATO round and boosts the 2.02 gramm (31 grains) pointed steel and alluminium core bullet to the muzzle velocity of 650 meters per second (ca. 2130 fps) from the pistol barrel. The key idea behind that ammunition and weapons is to provide good penetration against personnel, protected by modern body armour, while keeping weapons' weight, dimensions and recoil at the reasonable levels.
The Five-seveN is a delayed blowback operated, semi-automatic firearm. It featured polymer frame with underbarrel acessory rail. The gun is available in two versions: Five-seveN standard, intended mostly for military users, and Five-seveN Tactical, intended mostly for Law Enforcement users who carry handguns as a primary weapons. The only difference between Standart and Tactical models is in the trigger type: the Five-seveN standard features Double Action Only trigger with long trigger pull and no external safeties; The Five-seveN Tactical featured Single Action trigger with short and light trigger pull and ambidextrous safety switch, located on the frame above the trigger. Both variants are striker fired, with internal firing pin safety. The sights are fixed, with optional night sights (with luminous dots inserts) available.
The Five-seveN is advertised as being capable to penetrate standart PAGST vest at 300 meters and standart CRISAT (kevlar + titanium) vest at 100 meters.
The Five-seveN is available from FN for government or law enforcement sales only.

Desctiption of Five-seveN USG

This FN Five-Seven USG is a semi-auto pistol which fires the 5.7x28 round. It has a matte finish and a 4-3/4" barrel. This brand new pistol is the newest model 5-7 with a new square trigger guard, a new enhanced grip and a new user changable (left or right handed) magazine release. This pistol is awesome to shoot. It has an accessory rail and an adjustable rear sight and comes with one 10-round magazine, one 20-round magazine, a cleaning kit, a sight tool and a hardcase.

Available from Jay's Guns and SSG
Legendary Guns (in Phoenix) also has one!

AR 15 in a 5.7x28 FN (really 4.5x28)

Posted by: 17man , 09/29/2004, 13:10:26

I built a AR and modifide it to shoot the 5.7x28 . I necked the case down to 17 caliber and built a clip from a M1 carbine and put inside of a regular 223 20 round clip . I bought a 17HMR barrel from brownells { Clark 10/22 17HMR , 9 twist } I bushed the bolt and modifide 223 extractor . It is a blast to go to a PD town and cut loose on them . I has very mild muzzle blast and no recoil . I can shoot 16grain to 30 grain bullets with the 9 twist barrel . I had to make my own dies though and that was kind of a pain . I buit this one with a heavy barrel and it gets kinda heavy toating around , so the next one is going to be as light as I can build with maybe a tension barrel with aluminum sleeve and maybe a carbon fiber lower if I can find one . Later ! Mark.

P90 Magazine Holders

just wondering what pouches do you carry your real p90 mags in?

You can buy cheapies at the surplus store, they are made for the bipod of the M16, so they are mil-spec, etc.

Or, you can spend lots more and get them from Blackhawk.

Personally, I like having a seamstress sew pouches and pockets into my tactical uniforms. That way if I have to unload my equipment vest or something, I've got some basics on me: flashlight (P6), leatherman tool, one spare mag, USAF military pilot water bottle.

P90 Sight Options

(PlayerOneVsTheWorld @ Nov 9 2004, 11:53 AM)

The UK company producing the optical sights is Ring Sights. I struck up a deal with them around a year back to buy one of the units, but found I couldn't justify the price on my measly account balance :S

I would love to buy one now; I'm pretty sure its possible. I guess you've already got the unit, right eltee? From RS, it's around £140 delivered within the UK; not too bad. Less than the airsoft gun, at least

I spoke to Ian Flack last time, but that was a while ago. Not sure who would deal with purchases like that now.

You think it would be worth me buying one?

If I had to pick ONE sight for a real P90, it would be the Eotech Holographic tactical sight. For backup, the iron sight built into the left and right side of the frame is fine, esp. if the front blades are painted with gunsight high glow paint. For real CQB you pretty much use an instinctive "point shoot" technique at 15 feet or less and/or support that with a laser. The real, factory sight might be of great value to many, but if I have to use a sighting system at CLOSE range my personal preference is the Eotech whereas on my real M4 that is intended for mid to long range (if I am in a support or perimeter role) is the ACOG with the built in backup iron sights, plus we add the GG&G "MAD" backup tritium enhanced sight on the rail behind the ACOG. The ACOG has some quirks and limitations (short eye relief, hard to use co-witness sights or NV scopes, etc.).

If you want to trick out your airsoft P90 with a real P90 sight (like what I'm doing...so it is not a criticism) that's fine but IMHO if you want a real world user friendly and effective CQB sight, think about an EOTECH. Mind you, the eotech's can be found used, AND the older models simply called Bushnell Holographic sights are great for airsoft and the frontal glass is strong enough that you don't have to "armor" it against incoming airsoft rounds like you do with the replica eotechs.

(Rumors) Civilian P90 (1Q 2005?)

”There's still no way to legally hang a FN P90TR over your fireplace mantle, correct?”

Possibly soon. FN/Herstal is making a semi-auto version that will mainly be marketed to Law Enforcement in states where machineguns are not allowed, (again DE, HI, IA, IL, KS, NY, RI and WA). Odds are it will also show up in the civilian market - they said they would never sell the FN FiveSeven to civilians, uses the same round as the P90, but I now own one. Look for a civilian P90 next year after February’s SHOT show in Vegas.

Of course if you’re just looking for a mantle piece there’s always airsoft

"I had heard that the BATF has a huge bug up their collective ass regarding 5.7x28mm ammo in general."

The ammo was never illegal. It just wasn’t sold to anyone but Military/Law Enforcement. They are now selling the jacketed hollow point ammo to the civilian market for use in the FiveSeven pistol. Now if they started selling the full metal jacket ammo to the general public the BATF might step in.

QuinlanV 9 year old firing a P90

In semi auto fire the gun is still very accurate, and in full auto its very controllable because of the small round. The optics are not to increase its accuracy per se, but to provide for faster sighting in a CQB situation. If you've ever used an EOtech or Aimpoint you'll understand. There is no zoom on the factory optics, they are there to help you aim faster, not necessarily more accurately. Newer versions of the gun dispose of the factory optics altogether and you can put a CQB optic of your choice on the top picatinny rail. All versions have factory ambidextrous iron sights anyway. The cartridge feels alot like shooting a .22 magnum, its barely even there in terms of recoil. Of course, .22 mag doesn't go through ballistic vests.

I think for armored threats the cartridge is great, and for unarmored threats it is a poor choice. Once the round punches through the armor it deforms, yaws, or even splinters and wound trauma is dramatic, but without armor I think it tends to make a big temporary cavity but really just drill a .22 caliber hole in you. Of course you can make the exact same criticism of a G36C or AR15 shorty CQB setup with a 10 inch barrel and 5.56 NATO ammo, since the ammo doesn't reach enough velocity to fragment with such a short barrel (again, unless it hits armor first). It should be noted that a comparable AR15 or G36 setup will not be as controllable, will not be as compact, and will not have more than 30 rounds at the ready unless you opt for the heavy, bulky and sometimes tempermental Beta C mag.

I think the P90 is a good tool to add to the toolbox. It is not a wonder gun that can do all things, nor is it a useless pile of crap. Metaphorically its alot like that fancypants socket extension in my toolbox that I use to get to the exhaust bolts deep in my car's engine. It can't do as many things as a good old crescent wrench (AK47 perhaps?), but for certain situations it does get the job done faster and with less risk of damaging my car. If I could only have one tool it wouldn't be the socket extension, but it still fulfills a necessary need in my garage.

P.S. Here's a 5 minute MS Paint job of what a 16" barrel might look like on a possible civilian legal P90. Potentially I don't think it would look dumb at all.

And here is a vid taken from a recent Missouri Defensive Carbine Club shoot. You'll have to right click and save the file to your harddrive for the video to work.

www.imagestation.com/video/view.html?id=4195601179&dl=1

You can hear us laughing in the background because MODCC rules for that shoot required 10 rounds of ammo only in the first magazine, so everyone would have to reload somewhere during the course of fire. Because of the rate of fire, John only gets to light up one target before reloading. Note that with practice the reload really isn't that bad (he insists that he flubbed this reload but I don't think so, it looks quick to me). Also, you'll notice that the last target John engages is a white "pepper popper" steel plate at about 20 yards away. You engage the falling plate last; when it falls, that signals the scorekeeper to stop the time for the round. This time the plate did not fall, but it had four 5.7 mm holes drilled right through it. I believe the plate was made of three-quarter inch mild steel. So the whole part about the round being armor piercing is certainly not bullshit.

Note the absolute controllability in full auto fire. You might be able to dispute the stopping power of one round of 5.7 ammunition, but in real life CQB I don't think many "tangos" would get off so easily. 10 rounds to the head will put down anyone.

Five-seveN USG Rumors

Read the below post from a member at 1911forum.com:

For all concerned. Based on U. S. Secret Service inputs, there is now a 5.7 U. S. Government (USG) . Basically, they pointed out the deficiencies in the controls. I'm not sure if that will be available to the public due LE demand at this time. I have it on good authority that most if not all of the 5.7's weaknesses have been improved.

Doesn't sound like a typical gun rumor to me.
