The FN P90: A submachine gun developed in Belgium. When found that standard issuede handguns and SMGs issued to tank crews were unable to go through armored targets, the P90 was developed. The P90 fires 5.7x28mm round, which is basically a scaled down version of the 5.56x45mm round standardized by NATO. The P90 is capable of going through most starndard forms of body armour at considerable ranges. It's allows for ambidextrous firing. Though the P90's bullet design allows for more range and penetration than that of other more standard SMGs (MP5, MAC 11, Uzi, etc.), its smaller caliber gives it less stoping power than even the NATO standard 9mm Luger round, because of this the P90 is less than ideal against unarmored targets. The P90 is in a way the epitome of the PDW, with its only real competition being the HK MP-7.

Bullets for Beginners
Bullets for Beginners: "Flechette type APFSDS projectiles utilizing high strength or high density rod penetrators have been developed for small caliber 5.56 and 7.62 millimeter rifle systems, but without allowance for a tracer cavity in the flight projectile. Fin stabilized APFSDS projectile designs incorporating an adequate tracer cavity and developed for larger caliber systems do not efficiently scale down to small caliber projectiles due to the complexity of their sabot geometries which were optimized for the unique parameters of the larger caliber systems. Early fin stabilized APFSDS projectile designs for smaller caliber 5.56 and 7.62 millimeter guns did not provide for a tracer cavity in the rear of the flight projectile.
A more effective and efficient fin-stabilized, discarding sabot projectile incorporating an adequate tracer cavity with a deep armor penetrating projectile for small arms applications design overcomes many of the shortcomings inherent in earlier small arms APDS and APFSDS projectiles, such as: faulty structural design, poor sabot discard, reduced projectile accuracy at long range, low muzzle velocity due to high sabot parasitic weight, and inadequate armor penetration. Although a good start in the right direction for small caliber APFSDS projectiles, this design requires the use of several high precision manufactured obturator components, to ensure adequate performance and safety reliability. Reducing the complexity of the current state-of-the-art in obturator design will result in greater projectile performance, achieved with less expensive components, assemblies, and manufacturing processes.
Accordingly, it is advantageous to provide an armor piercing fin stabilized discarding sabot (APFSDS) projectile for small caliber guns which minimizes sabot parasitic weight and structural complexity, facilitates rapid sabot sepa"

In the past, when a soldier went into a special operations mission, ve often carried an assault rifle utilizing 5.56x45 mm ammunition, and a sidearm which used anything from 9mm to .45 ACP. This was a fine setup, but it required carrying two different kinds of ammunition, and the weight and size of the other ammunition put a limit on how much could be carried. Further, if the primary weapon was a 9mm based submachine gun, such as a Heckler and Koch MP5, they would lose the armor-penetrating ability of the 5.56 NATO rounds.
Fabrique Nationale sought to solve these problems by developing a round which possessed excellent ballistics, small size, and would be equally effective when chambered in a submachine gun or pistol. They answered NATO with the 5.7x28 mm round. It was first demonstrated in 1995 with the FN P90 submachine gun, and later in the Five-seveN pistol.
There are currently three varieties of the 5.7x28 mm round. The raw technical specs of the round are as follows.
SS190 - Standard
Bullet Type - FMJ
Cartridge Length - 40.5 mm
Round Weight - 98 grains
Projectile Weight - 31 grains
Muzzle velocity - 715 m/s for P90, 650 m/s for Five-seveN
Penetration - 48 layers of kevlar at 200 m

The SS190 ammunition looks like scaled down 5.56mm NATO round and boosts the 2.02 gramm (31 grains) pointed steel and alluminium core bullet to the muzzle velocity of 650 meters per second (ca. 2130 fps) from the pistol barrel. The key idea behind that ammunition and weapons is to provide good penetration against personnel, protected by modern body armour, while keeping weapons' weight, dimensions and recoil at the reasonable levels.
The Five-seveN is a delayed blowback operated, semi-automatic firearm. It featured polymer frame with underbarrel acessory rail. The gun is available in two versions: Five-seveN standard, intended mostly for military users, and Five-seveN Tactical, intended mostly for Law Enforcement users who carry handguns as a primary weapons. The only difference between Standart and Tactical models is in the trigger type: the Five-seveN standard features Double Action Only trigger with long trigger pull and no external safeties; The Five-seveN Tactical featured Single Action trigger with short and light trigger pull and ambidextrous safety switch, located on the frame above the trigger. Both variants are striker fired, with internal firing pin safety. The sights are fixed, with optional night sights (with luminous dots inserts) available.
The Five-seveN is advertised as being capable to penetrate standart PAGST vest at 300 meters and standart CRISAT (kevlar + titanium) vest at 100 meters.
