Miscellaneous Questions: "Q. How effective is the P90 'submachinegun' used on Stargate?
A. Despite all the manufacturer's hype and Hollywood glitz it is not as effective as they want you to believe. Weighing about 6.5 pounds with a loaded 50 rd magazine, it was originally designed as a 'personal defense weapon' for rear echelon troops and vehicle crew members that would be easier to to shoot effectively than a handgun.
The SS190 ball penetrates between 11 and 13.5 inches of gelatin, but the wound resulting from this projectile is a relatively small. The permanent cavity at its largest is either a .22 cal hole or simply a . 22 caliber flat slit the length of the projectile (2.1 cm) caused by the projectile tumbling. Although the 5.7 x 28 mm SS190 round penetrates soft body armor, its wound trauma incapacitation potential is at best like a .22 LR or .22 Magnum. Even 9mm NATO FMJ makes a larger wound--and I'm sure you know of the awe inspiring incapacitation potential of M882 FMJ 9 mm ball from the M9. While it's stated 'effective' range is listed as 200 meters this is pushing things a bit. While it can deliver a severe wound at that range, even up close it lacks the 'stopping' ability of most regular pistol rounds.

The 'civilian' 40 gr softpoint 5.7 mm rounds may be a bit more effective in creating a permanent cavity but penetration would be reduced. I haven't seen any tests of this round, but they too will reportedly penetrate some body armor.
The P90 is also available in a non-fully automatic civilian version with a 16' barrel as opposed to the 10' military version. The 16' barrel gives about 140 f/s greater velocity with the SS197 ammunition. Below is a table of currently available ammunition. Only the now discontinued SS196 and SS197 variants are available on the civilian market.

FN FiveseveN Forums - Stargate sling for the P90: "Well, for those of you that want an opinion of how the sling works.. I use a P90 when I play airsoft, and I do use the P90 sling. Where I play there are lots of mountains, hills, river beds, and of course the occasional baracades.

I can tell you that carrying the P90 with this sling is very useful.
#1 - Since the weight is distributed around my whole body, the gun never becomes heavy, or the sling never rubs against my neck.

#2 - Since the weapon is in front of my body, I can bring it up to a shooting position quite easily, or let it drop when not using it.

If you guys have any other questions.. I will be more than happy to answer them.

Airsoft P90 fan page (with pics and movie photos)

My P90, with and without silencer.

I chose a P90 for 3 reasons:

	I wanted a weapon which was compact, having used longer guns on my first couple of matches. I found long barrels get in the way when you're diving through hedges.
	I liked the look of the P90, having seen it on Stargate-SG1, and the James Bond flick, The World Is Not Enough (crap film that it was).
	I had the opportunity to try one owned by a friend, and liked it.

Of course once you buy any kind of airsoft gun, you want to modify it. Here's what has been done to mine:

	Spring uprated to give 325fps. I got this done at purchase, to save hassle. It gives it a nice boost to the range without really hurting your opponent (it is a game after all)
	Laser and torch added (1 each side) a la Stargate. I don't use the laser much, but the torch is handy in the bunkers - oh yes, and it looks good.
	3-9 x 40 scope added as I'm a bit of a sniper
	Sling added. This was home-made, and is ok, but could be improved (see bottom of left-hand column).

This is how they carry the P90 on Stargate SG1, as seen in the pic further up. My home-made sling doesn't really work in this position. Personally, I don't like the silencer slapping me in the groin every time I move. I would imagine it gets tiring on the neck too. See below for a possible solution.	This seems to be the best option, as long as you get the length right so it is easy to "draw" when needed. If using a silencer, watch you don't dig it into the dirt when you kneel down. If so, shorten the sling. I speak from experience!
Buy this sling from Stargate6.com SG1 use a much better sling than my home-made one, which should be more comfortable! I have one on order from Stargate6.com, and will review it after I've used it in action.
