FN FiveseveN Forums - Places 5.7x28mm isn't welcome

FN FiveseveN Forums - Places 5.7x28mm isn't welcome

I thought that it would be worthwhile to anectodally document locations (nation, state, county, city) where some or all components of the 5.7x28mm weapon system are not warmly embraced or that are more restrictive than the United States federal laws and regulations. I originally thought about calling this thread "Places I can't live" but that seemed too personal.

I later added localities that do not significantly restrict components and a basic color coding scheme was implemented. DO YOUR OWN HOMEWORK and DON'T TAKE ANYTHING WRITTEN HERE AS GOSPEL. Firearm ownership is a serious responsibility - take responsibility for your own actions.

Entrance criteria might be (but is not limited to):
Location maintains an "approved" list of firearms (and not all models of the P90/PS90/FsN are listed)
Location requires certain features (eg. magazine safety or target sights - ruling out the DAO and tactical models)
Location bans certain features (eg. threaded barrels, thumbhole stock, etc.)
Location has magazine capacity restrictions
Location bans specific weapon types (eg. pistols, SBRs, suppressors, automatic weapons, semi-automatic weapons derived from military designs)
Location bans ammunition that includes any 5.7x28mm (eg. defines AP ammo more restrictively than the US Feds do, or considers hollow-point ammunition as dum-dums, or...)

This thread is NOT intended to cover the various carry laws, nor is it for general discussion of class III/NFA - there are other threads and forums that cover those topics in better detail. It IS about the various laws that impact one's ability to KEEP certain classes of armament, in this case anything 5.7x28mm.

NATIONS:
Australia: Very restrictive firearms laws.
Canada: Friendlier than it used to be - at least one each of PS90 and FsN in private ownership as of 07/2006. Magazine capacity restrictions. 5.7x28mm ammunition still listed in http://laws.justice.gc.ca/en/C-46/SOR-98-462/82866.html Likewise for bullpups.
Japan: Very restrictive firearms laws.
United Kingdom: Very restrictive firearms laws.

US STATES:
Arizona: A good place to collect 5.7x28mm
California: DAO and Tactical models not on approved list (but IOM and USG are.) http://certguns.doj.ca.gov/ PS90 has "evil" features. http://caag.state.ca.us/firearms/regs/sb23.htm Magazine capacity restrictions. http://caag.state.ca.us/firearms/regs/sb23.htm
Colorado: A good place to collect 5.7x28mm
Florida: A good place to collect 5.7x28. One may own limited distribution 5.7x28mm ammo, it just can't be loaded in the pistol or used in the pistol unless LE or Military.
Indiana: appears to be 100% 5.7 friendly
Massachusetts: FsN not on approved list. http://www.mass.gov/Eeops/docs/chsb...ster_july06.pdf
Maryland: DAO, Tactical, and USG models not on approved list (but the IOM is.) http://www.mdsp.org/services/handgun.asp
New Mexico: A good place to collect 5.7x28mm
New Jersey: Magazine capacity restrictions (15 round max), Hollow points for target only. Effective ban on carry by limitation of permits.
Maine: A good place to collect 5.7x28mm
Maryland: IOM (only) is on approved list. DAO, Tactical, and USG models are not. http://www.mdsp.org/services/handgun.asp Magazine capacity restrictions (20 round) exist http://www.nssf.org/LL/stateAWB.cfm.
Michigan: Friendly to most everything but suppressors
Mississippie: is friendly to 5.7x28mm
Pennsylvania: A good place to collect 5.7x28mm
Texas: A good place to collect 5.7x28mm
Utah: A good place to collect 5.7x28mm

CITIES:
* Boston, Mass: Petition passed to add FsN to assault weapons list (requires mayorial signature.)
* Chicago, IL. Hangun ban.
* New York City (and evirons), NY total (effectively) gun ban.
* San Francisco, CA: Ban on all handguns (overturned, but pending appeal.)
* Washington, DC total (effectively) gun ban.

I don't agree (at all) with their conclusions nor with their stance, however, the Legal Community Against Violence (LCAV) does have a summary of assault weapon laws in the United States (circa 2004) at: http://www.lcav.org/library/feature..._Weapon_Ban.pdf

Feel free to add to the list by posting here or PMing me, and I'll try to keep it up to date. Include links to the source of information if you can.
